Design Technology
"Design creates culture. Culture shapes values. Values determine the future." - Robert L. Peters
Design and Technology is a creative, inspiring and practical subject which is supported at St Peter and St Paul through an interesting and engaging curriculum. Design and Technology provides children with a real life context for learning; developing key skills and knowledge that pupils can carry forward to the wider world following their time spent at our school. Our ambition is to provide a range of opportunities that supports and encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively in order to solve problems when learning as an individual and as a collaborative team member.
We encourage all our pupils to use their creativity and imagination to design, make and evaluate products that solve real problems within a variety of contexts. We aim to inspire our learners to consider their own needs, wants and values as well as those of others. We believe children should be inspired by a variety of engineers, inventors, chefs, architects and designers in order to develop aspiration, admiration and respect. Our ambition is to provide all pupils with the opportunity to explore, experiment and develop key skills and knowledge in a supportive and creative environment.
Within our Design Technology curriculum we aim to, wherever possible, link work with other areas of the curriculum such as Mathematics, Science, Computing and Art. The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers.
