Music
"Singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts" - Ephesians 5:19
At St Peter and St Paul, we want our children to be passionate about music and for it to be an important part of bringing us together as a community. We view Music as inclusive and a universal language that is a vital part of our children’s education. It is a tool for expression and personal development as well as a way to broaden spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness. We aim to encourage children’s curiosity as they ask questions and explore the role of music in different cultures and societies around the world.
At St Peter and St Paul, we love to sing. We believe that it helps us feel part of an immediate and wider community and is something we aim to share with others through Collective Worship and performance which furthermore promotes self confidence, mental well-being, self belief and resilience amongst our pupils.
In conjunction with Charanga and the aims of the National Curriculum, our music teaching offers opportunities to:
-
perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
-
learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, express themselves and play a range of percussion instruments.
-
understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated including: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations
Charanga provides a structure and skill development for the music curriculum being taught throughout our school making it accessible to all. Additional opportunities are provided in Music, such as choir, Young Voices concerts, singing assembly, peripatetic music lessons, theatre trips, community performances and visitors.
