Sports premium
Primary School Sports Funding
What is the Sports Premium?
Sports Premium is funding that is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, and Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.
The funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Purpose of funding
Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this. Possible uses of the funding include:
- Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sport coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE.
- Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport.
- Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport.
- Running sports competitions, or increasing participation in the school games.
- Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport.
- Providing places for pupils on after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs.
How we will be spending the Sports Premium
The Governors agree that the money must be used so that all children benefit, regardless of sporting ability, and so that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development to maintain high quality Physical Education in the school.
Below is a link to a review of how we spent our Sports Premium in 2019-2020 and its impact. Also, how we intend to spend the Premium in 2020-2021.

Outside Coaches- Ellie from T800 Crossfit
The KS2 and KS1 children have been incredibly lucky to have had sessions with Ellie Barnes from local ‘T800 Crossfit’. The sessions are fun, creative and inclusive to all those taking part. The children have been learning new and exciting ways to build stamina, strength and motivation. Pupils have been provided with tailored PE sessions led by a coach with specific skills and talents. Through providing children with new and alternative sports and exercise we aim to inspire a love of physical education. We hope to enable additional pupils to join the local facility which offers classes to children as young as 5.
