Autumn term 1st half

Our topic this half term is 'Pets'.

We are enjoying playing in our 'Vets' role play area.

They counted dog biscuits to match written numerals:

We had a visit from Julie from Eye library. She read us some stories about pets and left us some non-fiction books to look at.

We went on a walk to explore the outdoors and collected twigs and leaves. We brought them back to the classroom to create bird nests.

Autumn term 2nd half

Toys

We have had lots of fun doing teddy bear toy activities.

We made our own sandwiches and went on a teddy bears picnic. It was so much fun!

We will be looking at different types of pets each week.

The children have joined in lots of dog related activities.....

We have also looked at Cats.

We made model cats out of clay.....

We also enjoyed lots of other activities such as making cat masks, weighing cat food into bags, stamping letters in cat books and we read the story of 'Tabby McTat'.

We had a visit from a pet parrot- it was really interesting to hear about what it eats, what it needs and how it is different to other pets.

We brought in our teddy bears for a special treat....

Spring term 1st half

Winter

Our topic this half term is Winter.

We made snowmen using various materials such as playdough, straws, beans and lids.

We went on a Winter walk to the Pennings. We spotted signs of Winter.

We made handprints in the frost on a bench.

We finished off our Winter topic with a cup of yummy hot chocolate with marshmallows!

We made our own snowflakes by cutting patterns/ shapes in folded paper.

Some children worked together to create a Winter puzzle picture- it was 100 pieces!

We had fun exploring the ice. Polar animals were stuck inside and we had to work out how to free them.

The children were able to talk about ways to melt the ice.

It was fun exploring the area and as we walked, we collected natural objects and stuck them on our cards.

It was fun making bird feeders. We took them home to put in our gardens.

Spring term 2nd half

Dinosaurs

Our topic this half term is Dinosaurs.

We have been exploring out topic of dinosaurs in lots of different ways- through art, small world play, fine motor skills and lots more.

We are all looking forward to our visit to the dinosaur park soon. 

We had a fantastic time on our trip to the Dinosaur park. The children enjoyed the dinosaur trail, looking at some familiar and unfamiliar dinosaurs.

Summer term 1st half

Traditional Tales

We will be reading a different traditional tale each week. We started with 'The Gingerbread Man'. The children have enjoyed playing in our new role play area.

We have been doing addition using buttons on gingerbread men. Some children have used a number line to solve the addition problems.

Writing Cafe

We made our own potions and wrote a list of ingredients for them, drew story maps of the story of 'Hansel and Gretel', wrote captions for pictures, as well as lots of other fun activities.

Mrs Salter found a mystery egg on her way to school.... we await to see what it could be!

After lunch, we had a play on the large equipment... it was lots of fun!

We had a great time at our EYFS writing cafe. Lots of our families came and helped us with our writing activities.

We read the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. We made our own houses using wooden blocks and other construction materials in the classroom.

Some children made houses for their homework. They look great....
