A Prayer for Refugees

Almighty and merciful God,
whose Son became a refugee
and had no place to call his own;
look with mercy on those who today are fleeing from danger, homeless and hungry.

Bless those who work to bring them relief;
inspire generosity and compassion in all our hearts; and guide the nations of the world towards that day when all will rejoice in your Kingdom of justice and of peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for the New School Year

Almighty God, as we begin this new school year, we ask for your blessing on all who work and study here.  Open our minds as we learn about the glory of your creation, grant us courage as we accept new challenges, and help us to play our part in shaping this community.

We give thanks for the opportunities that lie before us; for the people who help us learn and play, for friendships old and new, and for the support of our families.

Finally, we pray for all those around the world who do not have a school to go to, or who are caught up in conflicts.  In particular we pray for the children of Syria and Iraq.  We ask you to comfort and support those who suffer, and give them hope and strength to work for a better future.  We ask all this through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

A Prayer for the Day

I start with thanks, and then give praise
For all your kind and loving ways.

Today if sunshine turns to rain,
If a dark cloud brings some pain,
I won't doubt or hide in fear
For you, my God, are always near.

I will travel where you lead;
I will help my friends in need.
Where you send me I will go;
With your help I'll learn and grow.

Hold my family in your hands,
As we follow your commands.
And I will keep you close in sight
Until I go to bed tonight.  Amen

Thanks for Friendship - by Mikaela

Dear God, our love and friendship that you have given us is a lovely gift, just like all the food we eat, the things that we drink, and the things that we say to both lovely and mean people.  Jesus made this world for us, not to be sad or angry, but to be happy, excited and also feel loved.

Just think about the sad people that don't have the things we have.  We will learn to help those people, and learn how to pray and thank you for all our homes.  We hear the birds chirping in the morning, read books, play games, and we go to school to learn.  We have clothes to wear, shoes, and all you have given us.

We shall always love you, God, we shall always love you Jesus.  Amen

A Harvest Prayer

Dear God,

Each season brings something new

for us to see and enjoy,

With sunny days and rainy days

our crops grow larger.

Fruit and vegetables ripen, ready for Harvest.

Thank you for all the food we have to eat.

Help us remember people

who do not have enough;

help us to be kind to others

in our thoughts, words and deeds.

Amen

A Responsive Lord's Prayer
Our Father in Heaven,
Remind us constantly that you are parent to all your children,
Whoever, or wherever they are or come from.

Hallowed be your name. Your Kingdom come,
Establishing peace and justice, hope and life for all peoples.

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Disturb us into awareness of the needs of others.

Forgive us our sins,
Our pride and our prejudices.

As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
Especially keep our hearts and minds open
To see the good in others.

Deliver us from evil. For the kingdom,
Just and true,

The power,
Gentle and fair,

And the glory,
Alive with the colours of your creation,

Are yours for ever and ever.
Amen.
